Written by Aneko Yusagi, The Rising of The Shield Hero is an action, dark fantasy, Isekai Japanese light novel series. It follows the story of Naofumi Iwatani, an ordinary Japanese boy, who gets summoned to an alternate world as a “Shield Hero”, the weakest out of the four summoned heroes. Their sole purpose in this world is to fight inter-dimensional hordes of monsters called Waves. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming season of The Rising of The Shield Hero.

The Rising of The Shield Hero Release Date

On March 6, 2021, the Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari Season 2 release date was originally announced to be scheduled for October 2021, the Fall 2021 anime season. However, on July 7, 2021, it was further announced that the second season would be delayed.

“Due to various reasons, we have decided to postpone the broadcast of The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2, which was scheduled to start broadcasting in October 2021,” stated the official website. “We are currently planning to start broadcasting in April 2022, so when the detailed date and time is decided we will announce it on the official website.”

During Virtual Crunchyroll Expo 2020, the Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari Season 2 trailer was released along with a new key visual. In addition to a The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 trailer, it has already been announced that the third season will release not too long after. The trailer of season 2 confirmed a few changes from the production staff on Season 2.

For one, Masato Jinbo is replacing Takao Abo as director for this season. And while Kinema Citrus was the animation studio behind the series on Season 1, they’ll be teaming up with South Korean animation studio DR Movie for Season 2.

Where to Watch The Rising of The Shield Hero?

The Rising of the Shield Hero season 1 is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll and Funimation, as well as both Amazon Prime and Netflix (only in selected territories). Fans can expect season 2 to be simulcast on either Crunchyroll or Funimation, before arriving on other platforms several months later after the finale.

Plot of Season 2

The story for the Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2 is yet to reveal but it would show the protagonist Naofumi Iwatani and his friends growing up. According to the official trailer, the story will follow after the fight between Glass and Naofumi’s party. Naofumi will try to uncover the truth that why monster waves are trying to kill the world’s Cardinal Heroes.

The Rising of The Shield Hero Cast

Masato Jinbo (Chaos; Child) will direct the second season, replacing first season director Takao Abo (Black Lagoon). Keigo Koyanagi (Regalia: The Three Sacred Stars) returns as head of the series composition, and Kevin Penkin will continue to compose the series’ musical soundtrack.

The Japanese voice actors of Naofumi (Kaito Ishikawa), Raphtalia (Asami Seto), and Filo (Rina Hidaka) will also reprise their roles in the second season. All three actors were set to host a panel discussing the anime series and their roles at The Virtual Crunchyroll Expo this month.
