Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

The most obvious choice, Valorant owes a lot to Counter-Strike. The game’s intricate shooting and movement mechanics are very similar which makes it easy to jump into it. There are no character-specific abilities, which makes it a lot grounded. This does however greatly improved one’s individual impact on the playing field.

Along with this, Counter-Strike has one of the best community features out there. You can try almost anything from custom maps to even alternate matchmaking services with their own leaderboards and ELO systems. Wrap that up in a free-to-play package and Counter-Strike becomes really hard to pass out on.

Rainbow Six Siege

Ubisoft’s tactical shooter, Rainbow: Six Siege is yet another game you are sure to like if you like Valorant’s methodical gameplay. Rainbow takes the tactical gameplay features of these games and doubles down on them. The operators have a lot of different gadgets at their disposal, opening up a bunch of team comps.

Unlike Valorant, you will need to pay upfront for playing Rainbow Six Siege. The best way to try it out right now is via Xbox Game Pass.

Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2 is Valve’s original team FPS. Much of the concepts of agent classes and abilities can be traced back to this title. Even after more than a decade, the gameplay still holds up to other shooters. If you get tensed with Valorant’s overly competitive nature and complex spray patterns, Team Fortress 2 can serve as a casual game to chill out with friends after a long day at work.

Team Fortress 2 is free-to-play and can be downloaded via Steam.

Apex Legends

Apex Legends is one of the best and most mechanically polished Battle Royales out there. Having released in 2019. the game is still going strong with a lot of new legends and rebalance updates. It combines team-based abilities with the extremely polished and fun shooting mechanics of Titanfall 2 for an addictive experience.

If you are somewhat burnt up by the 5v5 shooters on this list, definitely give this one a try. Apex Legends is a free-to-play game available on almost all major platforms.

Spellbreak

Spellbreak is a free-to-play battle royale played in the third person. It released last year and flew under many gamers’ radar. It takes the usual battle royale experience and swaps out guns for spells and elemental abilities. This is one of the very few battle royales that have a progression system, with points adding up to level up your spells. This does tip the balance off in favour of experienced players but also gives short term goals to incentivize playing.

Spellbreak is free-to-play and can be downloaded from the Epic Games Store.

This concludes the list of the 5 games like Valorant. For more on video games and anime, stay tuned to The Profaned Otaku.
