Grand Theft Auto has been one of the staples in the gaming industry for a long time now. This open-world mayhem simulator has always been a critical darling and a heavy hitter in terms of sales since it’s beginnings. The latest iteration of the series, Grand Theft Auto V has consistently been topping sales charts since it’s release in 2013 and is showing no signs of stopping down.

This can be attributed to great online support by the devs alongside the fact the core gameplay never gets stale. This has, however, sparked the question of when will the next GTA come out and whether if it has started development.

Is Grand Theft Auto 6 In Development?

Kotaku has reported back in April of 2020 that Rockstar has started development on the next game in the series. This report obviously doesn’t contain any solid release dates for the game and it isn’t reasonable to expect so. As Rockstar’s games go bigger and bigger, the development times will also increase accordingly.

After a major breakdown of Rockstar’s crunch culture, the report said that the management team at Rockstar has laid out plans to release Grand Theft Auto in an episodic structure. This means that the launch game will contain a decent amount of content and the team will further add content down the line. Hitman 2016 had the same vision and it didn’t really go well, even though the game was suited for this kind of release. Rockstar hasn’t said anything on how their approach would work, but we are guessing those post-launch additions will most likely have a price tag attached to them.

Players are still busy looking out for clues everywhere from Grand Theft Auto V’s online mode to The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights music video. Until now, we have seen many rumours regarding the game’s setting and the protagonist’s gender. We are still very far from the game’s release right now and an affirmation regarding its development is sure to keep players content for now.
