A retail listing of the Upcoming Marvel’s Avengers videogame on a UK based online retailer “Base” leaks Spider-Man as a playable character. The product description mentioned, “Play as Spider-Man exclusively on PS4”. The description continued as-
Marvel’s Avengers is coming to PS4 from Crystal Dynamics! Play as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in single-player and co-op in an all-new original story.

After a few hours after the leak “Play as Spider-Man exclusively on PS4” text was deleted from the description. Sony owns the Licensing rights for Spider-Man. We saw how they made the recent Spider-Man game a PlayStation 4 exclusive. Even the upcoming Spider-Man Miles Morales is a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
Sony Owns Licensing Rights for Spider-Man and its characters
Square Enix and Sony have been partners on many different projects. Moreover, Sony does have a marketing deal with Square Enix on Marvel’s Avengers. So, we can expect Spider-Man in Marvel’s Avengers as an exclusive playable character for PlayStation 4 users and later for PS5 users.

The game will have three phases of Beta/ Early Access-
- First Phase: August 7, 2020: PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro users who have pre-ordered the game can download and play the beta.
- Second Phase: August 14, 2020: The beta is available for free on for PS4 and PS4 Pro users. While PC and Xbox users can access the beta if they have pre-ordered the game. Furthermore, for players who are on the PC and Xbox platform and haven’t pre-ordered the game can’t access the beta.
- Third Phase: August 21, 2020: Marvel’s Avengers Beta is open to everyone on every major platform. This means PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players can enjoy the beta. Even without pre-order.

We should also keep in mind that this whole “Play as Spider-Man exclusively on PS4” thing can be a mistake from Base’s end. For now, we don’t have any official confirmation on this topic. We will update you all as soon as we get new details.
