Open Beta for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on PS4/PS5 has been out for a while now with Xbox/PC users following suit on September 22-24. But how is the latest outing measuring up to its predecessor regarding cross-play and cross-gen features?

Open Beta is out for all the platforms

Beta is Crossplay. Period.

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 beta supports cross-platform multiplayer between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

This means regardless of their console or PC platform, users can engage in an all-out battle for victory, enhancing the console wars to a new level. No doubt, the feature is an absolute necessity now.

With the availability of the Cross-Gen Bundle, the physical variant (not digital but discs) will also be cross-platform.

With Cross Gen Bundle physical forms of the game will be cross-platform too

Cross-Progression has better integration.

Cross Progression is also available in Modern Warfare 2, which means the game will continue to work on multiple platforms with one single Activision account instead of a platform-specific account.

Although you can only play on one gaming platform at a time, the XP progression will be shared throughout every platform and the rest of the game in the series including the upcoming Warzone 2.0 and Call of Duty Warzone Mobile.

Players buying the game from Battlenet or Steam can compete against each other

MW2 supports Cross-Gen and Cross-Store.

With the new consoles taking over the previous generation of aging old PS4s and Xbox One S/X, and gaming companies shunning support for the same, Activision is setting a different example. By releasing the game for all the consoles out in the market (PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One X/S, and PC), Activision is in no mood to pull out the rug from beneath its previous generation players.

And it gets better with Cross-Play support across multiple cross-gen platforms.

The game is available for Pre-order on both Battlenet and Steam for PC platforms and players can compete with each other, regardless of the store they bought it from.

The only thing that won’t be Cross-Platform would be CoD Points which is platform specific.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches on October 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
