Call of Duty: Next and the Open Beta Access launch on September 16 gave us a lot of details on the multiplayer aspects of the game. With so much to look forward to including the much-awaited Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 on November 16 and the first glimpse of Call of Duty Warzone Mobile, are fans of the series justified in asking about their favourite game mode, and should that be the deciding factor in the game’s purchase.
Brand New Multiplayer Modes showcased
Starting from 32v32 Battle Maps and 6v6 Core Maps to the usual but engaging, Deathmatch and Domination. Ground War also gets a much more enriching experience where players can explore every building. A new Knockout mode was also revealed in which players will have to eliminate the opposing forces or hold the package to victory.
Surprisingly, a Third-person mode was also teased which is new for Call of Duty in recent years. Indeed a direct competition to other shooter games especially Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, known famously for its Third person POV.
Finishing the main campaign will unlock Special Ops, which will involve another player in a rich cooperative experience allowing them to tear up large-scale hot zones for multiple side operations.
But where’s the Spilt Screen mode ?
This mode has been requested every year since its last inclusion in Call of Duty Modern Warfare in 2019. So the anticipation of this mode was high with its sequel.
Even though the split-screen mode was later removed from the 2019 title, much to the disappointment of the fans, from the multiplayer and survival modes in a patch update without any acknowledgment from developers or the support team. Eventually, players found a way around the update but it was not officially supported.
Split screen allows multiple players to play on one screen ranging from 2-4 players with the screen split in half either vertically, or horizontally. It’s a fun experience when you are simply enjoying the game with family or friends.
On the downside, playing on the same screen reduces the visibility to spot enemies when using a sniper. Plus the conflicting sounds from other players on the same screen cause difficulty in detecting enemy presence.
Modern Warfare 2 has no split-screen mode as of now
From a strictly business POV, a split-screen mode doesn’t bode well for gaming companies as it reduces their sales.
But with so much content on the horizon for the new shooter, perhaps the Split-screen mode will take a back seat for now. Or maybe it will be included in a future update.
Fingers Crossed indeed.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches October 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
