Video games’ popularity continues to rise as developers focus on making the medium more inclusive every passing generation. One of 2020’s biggest AAA titles, The Last of Us 2, was able to cater to an entirely new audience thanks to its overwhelming number of accessibility options. This year’s indie hit, Chicory: A Colorful Tale, was designed in a way that ironically made it accessible to colorblind people. Developer Survios’ spin on the classic puzzle arcade game series, Puzzle Bobble, is set to receive similar treatment in its next iteration, Puzzle Bobble 3D: Vacation Odyssey, when it launches later this year on PS4 and PS5.

In a press release to celebrate Color Blind Awareness Day, Survios revealed three new accessibility modes that will be made available in Puzzle Bobble 3D: Vacation Odyssey come launch. The modes have been designed to make the game accessible to all three categories of color blindness.

They are:

  • R/G – For players with difficulty distinguishing between red and green
  • B/Y – For players with difficulty distinguishing between blue and yellow
  • UNI – This universal mode is for players with any sort of colorblindness, including Monochromacy. In this mode, all colors are replaced with black, white or patterns.

According to Survios Chief Product Officer TQ Jefferson, “It has always been Survios’ goal to make our games more accessible for everyone, including gamers with color vision deficiency. With the addition of these three color blindness accessibility options, we are one step closer to fostering a more-inclusive experience for our titles.”

Puzzle Bobble 3D: Vacation Odyssey launches with over 100 levels in its story modes, alongside an Infinite Mode where players can complete endless challenges to increase their high scores and a Duel Mode that adds 1v1 PvP crossplay action among PS4, PS5, and PSVR users.

Puzzle Bobble 3D: Vacation Odyssey is now available on Oculus Quest and Quest 2, with a PS4 and PS5 release happening later this year.
