Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 is the latest entry in the beloved FPS looter shooter series. It released in 2019 and was received well critically. The game has a unique and charming mix of stylized visuals, a legitimately funny sense of humor, and addictive gameplay loops. However, the console versions of the game did suffer from distracting frame rate issues and paired-back visual settings. Playing this game on the PS5 with an upgrade patch dramatically improves the experience with a whole host of new graphical settings and improved framerates. It is one of the very few shooters with a dedicated split-screen co-op option which is very well suited for burst play sessions.

Fortnite

One of the biggest games on the planet for quite some time now, Fortnite remains a blast to play with friends. You can team up with a friend and queue for duo matchmaking using a split-screen. The additional horsepower at PS5’s disposal translates to a superior playing experience across the board. A large portion of the game involves creating chaos and what better way to do it than with a friend.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

A launch title for PS5, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a gorgeous 3D platformer, inspired by the likes of Super Mario 3D Worlds. It combines joyous movement mechanics with inventive level-design for a fun experience. In addition to this, you can also play through the entire game with a friend via split-screen. It is also one of the very few games to make use of PS5’s excellent Dualsense controller.

Overcooked! All You Can Eat

Overcooked! All You Can Eat is a collection of the 2 Overcooked games wrapped in one handy package. For the uninitiated, Overcooked is a series of fun co-op games that requires you and a friend to cook up meals at various restaurants. These restaurants/levels are extremely inventive and are deliberately designed to make everyone get to work together. Frankly put, these are very difficult and will truly test the might of your friendship over it’s run. That being said, the extremely fresh and enjoyable levels motivate you to go further and further in a quest to see it’s ending.

Racing against your friends has been fun ever since it was a thing and won’t go out of style anytime soon.
